Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, participated in a high-level dialogue session hosted by the Iraq-US Business Council in Baghdad on Wednesday, highlighting the country’s drive to deepen economic cooperation with the United States.
In his remarks, Minister Hussein emphasised the strength of Iraq-US trade relations and called for continued efforts to foster economic partnerships. He acknowledged the pivotal role of the Iraqi-American Business Council and the institutional relationship with the American Chamber of Commerce in advancing bilateral commercial interests.
The meeting comes at a crucial time, following recent tariff developments that have impacted trade dynamics worldwide. Against this backdrop, the dialogue is seen as a key opportunity to reaffirm mutual commitment to fair, balanced, and forward-looking trade relations.
According to a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, nearly 60 American companies are part of the visiting delegation. The delegation’s objective is to “strengthen U.S.-Iraq private sector ties and foster fair and balanced trade between the U.S. and Iraq,” the Embassy noted.
Minister Hussein addressed several pressing challenges facing investors, particularly in relation to Iraq’s infrastructure and regulatory landscape. He listened attentively to concerns raised by participants, especially American investors, and stressed the importance of joint cooperation to overcome such obstacles.
He also highlighted the strategic role played by Iraq’s diplomatic missions abroad in facilitating foreign investment. These missions, he said, are equipped to support international investors by providing practical assistance and helping them navigate bureaucratic hurdles.
The dialogue session served as a critical platform for Iraqi officials and U.S. business leaders to exchange insights and explore ways to enhance bilateral trade, at a time when economic cooperation between the two nations is more important than ever.
